Agnes Lacy

December 8, 1922 — January 1, 2015

A gnes Irwin (Strobel) Lacy, 92, of Sabetha, Kansas, went home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Cobblestone Court Residential Facility in Sabetha.

She was born on December 8, 1922 in Powhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Orin and Lena (Lange) Strobel.

Agnes graduated from Hiawatha High School in Hiawatha, Kansas, with the class of 1940. After graduation she attended Emporia State Teacher’s College in Emporia, Kansas, where she met Jack P. Lacy whom she later married. They had three daughters together.

In the 1950’s Agnes was active in the Girl Scouts of America, being one of the first Girl Scout leaders in the San Francisco Bay area to accept a disabled child into a troop, for which she won a “Woman of the Month” award.

For many years she was involved with the Lutheran Hour Ministries. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Sabetha where she was a Sunday School and Bible Class Teacher as well as a dedicated and effective Prayer Warrior for young and old alike.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, James Fraley, Morris Fraley, Henry Fraley, Harvey Strobel, Orin Strobel, Jr.; one sister, Virginia (Fraley) Rudey.

She is survived by three daughters, Orinne Schumann of Emporia, Agnes “Bebe” Wells of Thornton, Colorado and Josephine “Jody” Bryant of Norfolk, Virginia; one brother, Dale Strobel of Hiawatha and 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sabetha. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries or First Lutheran Church in Sabetha sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
