Alfred LeRoy Strader, 84, of Sabetha, Kansas, died on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.
LeRoy was born in Frankfort, Kansas on July 4, 1938, to Alfred Nelson Strader and Hazel Mae (Catlin) Strader. After leaving high school, LeRoy joined the Armed Forces of the United States. During his 6-year assignment, LeRoy spent most of his deployment in Germany and Lebanon. After his honorary discharge from the Army, LeRoy moved to Sabetha.
In Sabetha, LeRoy worked for Mid-America Dairy for almost 40 years while moonlighting as a semi-truck driver and hauling milk for the same company. After retiring from Mid-Am, LeRoy continued to haul milk for over ten years for two other private companies.
LeRoy was married to Burnadene Carleton in 1958. She died in 1987. Then, in 1981, LeRoy married Janice (Stevens) Chesnut.
LeRoy was a member of the First Baptist Church and the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha. In his spare time, LeRoy enjoyed being outdoors, doing yardwork, watching NASCAR, and he especially enjoyed camping. He spent countless weekends at Sycamore Springs and became a “regular” visitor there. In the last 15 years of his life, his love for animals was unparalleled. He was rarely seen around Sabetha without Shadow, his 120-pound Malamute Husky German Sheppard mix.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald; and his grandson, Graham Strader.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Janice Strader of Sabetha; his two daughters, LeAnn McGill of Rockwall, Texas and Danielle Henager of Royse City, Texas; his two sons, Duane of St. Joseph, Missouri and Tyrone; his stepdaughter, Lori (Chesnut) Gudenkauf of Seneca, Kansas; his stepson, Rick Stumbo of Olathe, Kansas; his three grandchildren, Drew Strader of Las Vegas, Nevada, Danielle (Strader) Rebant of Sabetha, and Anthony Strader of Allen, Texas; his great-grandchildren, Gage, Owen, Cash, Liam, and Ford; his step-grandchildren, Jordan, Rachel, Tanner, and Kali; and his brother, Glenn of Wolf Point, Montana.
