Alice Rose Walters, 97, of Centralia, KS died peacefully with her family by her side at the Eastridge Care Home in Centralia.
Alice was born February 2, 1915 near Oneida, KS the daughter of Clair Campfield and Frances Heinen Campfield. Alice graduated from Centralia High School in 1932.
Alice was married to Fred Walters on August 9, 1938 at Meriden, KS. Fred preceded Alice in death on April 19, 1995.
Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church in Centralia, KS.
She is survived by two daughters, Joy Glatczak of Centralia, KS and Kay Lewis of Manhattan, KS; Four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded by two brothers, Max Campfield and Harold (Dick) Campfield and one sister, Dorothy.
Alice taught at Union Dale Grade School from 1934-1938. She was a homemaker, worked at the school cafeteria, then at Drinkwater’s, Hightower’s, and Haverkamp’s grocery stores.
She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, her garden, church activities and mostly her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Alice was cremated and a memorial service will be Friday, November 2, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Centralia at 10:30 AM. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the memorial service. Rev. Michael McKee will conduct the services. Julie Gleason will be the organist. Inurnment will be in the Centralia Cemetery following the service.
Memorials are being left to the Eastridge Care Home or the United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home (mailing address – 814 Castle, Seneca, KS 66538).
