Alphia Strahm

July 6, 1927 — December 7, 2017

A lphia Strahm Jr. passed peacefully to his eternal home on Thursday afternoon, December 7, 2017 at the age of 90.

Alphia was born on July 6, 1927, the oldest child of Alphia J. and Lena (Hartter) Strahm in Sabetha, Kansas.  He attended the one-room National School just down the road from the family farm where he grew up.  His occupation was farming, raising crops to feed hogs and cattle.  Alphia surrendered his life to the Lord and was baptized at the age of 19 and remained a life-long member of the Bern Apostolic Christian Church where he served the Lord and his church in many roles including as minister of the Gospel for 34 years.

Alphia was united in marriage to Mamie Marti on March 25, 1951.  Together, they raised 8 children: Ada, Dean, Rodney, Curtis, Edwin, Kyle, Michael and Bradley.

Alphia was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years on October 1, 2004, one grandson and one great-grandson.

He is survived by his children:  a daughter, Ada (Don) Plattner; sons, Dean (Jan), Rod (Cynthia), Curt (Ellen), Ed (Ramona), Kyle (Peggy), Mike (Diane), and Brad (Michelle), all of Sabetha; two brothers, Waymer Strahm of San Francisco, California, and Clayton Strahm (Miriam) of Sabetha and one sister, Arleta (Harold) Waibel of Remington, Indiana and 32 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

Alphia will be remembered as a man of quiet faithfulness to his God, wife, church, and family.

Funeral service will be Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bern Apostolic Christian Church.  Visitation is Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2017 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the Bern Apostolic Christian Church.  The interment will be made in the Bern Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Home, Sabetha Community Hospital or to the charity of the donor’s choice sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary 823 Virginia Sabetha, Kansas  66534.
