Alvin Spellmeier

Alvin Lawrence Spellmeier, 88, of Sabetha died Monday, November 23, 2009 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.


Alvin was born on October 23, 1921 on the family farm southeast of Fairview to William Spellmeier and Louise (Wilke) Spellmeier. His father was killed in a farm accident when he was about two years old. After that Alvin and his mother lived with his grandparents and an uncle. Alvin farmed and grew up under the guidance of his uncle Gus Wilke. He attended Fairview High School and was a member of the Fist Lutheran Church in Sabetha.


On February 3, 1963 he married Alda Wenger of Sabetha. The couple farmed southeast of Fairview until they retired and moved to Fairview, then to the Apostolic Christian Retirement Village in Sabetha. A few years after Alda passed away Alvin moved to the Apostolic Christian Home and lived there until his death.


Alvin is survived by cousins, Emil Spellmeier of Fairview, Kansas and Harry Ruesler of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; brother-in-laws, Vernon Wenger and is wife, Beverly and Merlin Wenger and his wife, Retta both of Sabetha, Kansas; several nieces and nephews.


Funeral service will be Friday, November 27, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sabetha. A visitation will be one hour before service time at the church. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to the First Lutheran Church Preschool sent in care of the funeral home.
