Avis Beer

A vis Arlene Beer was born on March 17, 1917 to George and Ona (Curran) Nohl in Nemaha County.  She graduated from Oneida High School in 1935 and lived in the Sabetha area her entire life.  She was united in marriage to J. Alvy Beer on June 8, 1938 at the home of her parents in Capioma, Kansas.  Avis taught school after her high school graduation and worked numerous jobs in the Sabetha area through the years.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha.  She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing, quilting and loved being with her family.

Avis died on March 2, 2014 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha at the age of 96.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvy Beer; one sister, Laverna Taylor; and two grandsons, Bradley Beer and Tyler Middendorf.  She is survived by her children, Ann Hillsdale (Bob), Larry Beer (Donna), Calvin Beer (Pamela) and Tom Beer; and one sister, Katherine Gilbert; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.  A family visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Popkess Mortuary Chapel.  The interment will be made in Sabetha Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family to be designated at a later date and sent in care of the funeral home.
