Beatrice Mars, 105, of Centralia, died peacefully Sunday morning, November 18, 2012 at the Eastridge Care Home in Centralia.
Beatrice was born March 21, 1907 the daughter of Oscar and Mattie Morrison Surdez south of Baileyville, KS on the farm.
Beatrice married Leo George Mars at Seneca, Kansas on February 15, 1926. Beatrice and Leo farmed and raised their family south of Centralia all of their married life. Leo preceded Beatrice in death on December 15, 1980. Beatrice lived on the farm until she moved to the Eastridge Care Home in June 2012.
Beatrice was a member of The Armstrong – Moyer American Legion Auxiliary Post #216 of Centralia, a local Home Demonstration Unit, a Neuchatel community club, and The Concord Card Club.
Beatrice is survived by three daughters, Margaret Bonjour of Centralia, Darline Costa of Onaga, and Shirley Davin of Austin, TX; a son Robert Mars of Vermillion. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Beatrice is preceded in death by a son, Richard Mars who died in 1988, a brother, Richard Surdez, a sister, Bernice Mars, and great grandchildren Brent Burdiek and Elizabeth Bonjour.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Rev. Bill Shea will officiate the services. Julie Gleason will play the organ and sing. Casket bearers are Donnie Bonjour, Craig Costa, Ken Costa, Mike Davin, Robbie Davin, Alan Mars and Jay Mars. Honorary casket bearers are Joni Davin, Diane Stych, Brenda Burdiek, Kristy Sheppard, Sheri Burdiek and Stacy Rempe. Burial will be in the Neuchatel Cemetery. A family visitation will be at 10:00AM Wednesday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Centralia.
