Betty Lou (Phillips) Kellenberger, 93, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Apostolic Christian Home Assisted Living in Sabetha, Kansas.
Betty was born on July 8, 1930, at Fairview, Kansas to Elery Joe Phillips and Thelma L. (Broderick) Phillips. Betty was the fifth child of eight children born to the Phillips, and she was the last surviving sibling. Betty graduated from Sabetha High School, and after graduation, she started her first job at the Sabetha Creamery.
She married Leo Kellenberger on September 5, 1948, and they had a wonderful, loving, marriage until Leo’s passing on November 22, 2009. The early years were difficult, and in 1952, Betty and Leo moved to Wichita where Leo got a job as a line supervisor at Boeing Aircraft. Several years later, they moved back to Sabetha to help Betty’s parents at their nursing home on 14th Street which Leo and Betty eventually purchased in 1958. In 1965, Betty and Leo built the Fountain Villa Nursing home which they operated until January 1, 1979, when they retired.
During their retirement years, Betty and Leo spent their summers in Sabetha and winters in Harlingen, Texas at an R.V. Park. At the R.V. Park, they served as the administrators and activity directors with one of their favorite activities being square dancing. They enjoyed many happy years of square dancing together.
Betty had a wonderful life, and she especially enjoyed Leo flying them around the country, square dancing with Leo, and taking trips with their children and grandchildren. Betty also enjoyed China painting, ceramics, winning Bingo games at the Apostolic Christian Village, and making special memories with her family.
Betty is survived by her son, David (Sheryl) Kellenberger; her daughter, Linda Miller; and her eight grandchildren, Tina Nigh, Kenny (Kalynn) Miller, Gary (Jamiee) Miller, Jr., William (Jinnine) Miller, Lisa (Mark) Compton, Laura (Chance) Cox, Kevin (Renae) Kellenberger, and Landon Kellenberger; her 18 great-grandchildren; her ten great-great-grandchildren; and her many nieces and nephews.
Betty’s most common statement in her recent years has been,
“I’ve had a blessed life.”
