Brete DeBord

B rete William DeBord, 63, of Topeka, KS formerly of Centralia, KS passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

Brete was born July 12, 1954 to Louis Nelson and Margaret Joyce (Horalek) DeBord in Seneca, KS. Brete attended Centralia Schools and graduated from Centralia High School in 1972. He attended Kansas State University as well as Concordia Community College. He went on to Friends University in Wichita, KS and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems.

Brete married Joan C. Boeckman on June 9, 1974 in Centralia, KS. After marriage they made their home in Centralia and farmed for a number of years. Brete returned to Kansas State University and became a salesman. Brete loved to golf, watch Kansas State sports, and visiting with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his father; and an infant sister, Mary Margaret.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan DeBord of Topeka, KS; three daughters, Jennifer Nicklaus (Jason) of Round Rock, TX, Heather Reyes (Gerardo), and Maggie Jones (Daniel) both of Topeka, KS; his mother, Margaret Joyce (Horalek) DeBord of Onaga, KS; and a brother, Blake DeBord (Brenda) of Manhattan, KS.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Popkess Memorial Chapel in Seneca, KS. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date and time. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider contributing to Brete’s memorial fund which is set up through the KSU Foundation and will directly benefit K-State student athletes, as Brete was an avid fan. A memorial for Brete DeBord has been established at the Kansas State University Foundation.
