Byford Eugene Heiniger

Byford Eugene Heiniger, 80, died on Friday, February 10, 2023, in Hiawatha, Kansas at the Maple Heights Nursing & Rehabilitative Center.

Byford was born on March 2, 1942, to Jesse and Freida Heiniger, and Byford was their only child.  Byford grew up and lived on the family farm south of Sabetha, Kansas.  Byford married Nadine Wright on August 18, 1986.  Nadine passed away on October 3, 2006.

As a teenager, Byford learned to fly an airplane.  After graduating from Sabetha High School in 1960, he went into the military and served as an MP (Military Police) in Detroit, Michigan.  After his honorable discharge, he worked a full career for the Union Pacific Railroad out of Kansas City.  After retiring from the railroad, he drove a semi-truck for Keim Transportation for many years.  As a hobby, he enjoyed farming and working on his collection of old International tractors.

Byford will be missed by many friends and family. 

Byford was cremated.  A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sabetha Cemetery.  Popkess Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
