Carroll Wittmer

January 17, 1936 — March 26, 2009

Carroll H. Wittmer was born on January 17, 1936 in Oneida, Kansas. He was the son of Vernon Arthur Wittmer and Ida Marie (Herrmann) Wittmer. He graduated from Sabetha High School in 1954. He studied engineering at Kansas State University.


Carroll served in the United States Air Force from 1957 until 1961, where he received the Good Conduct Medal. Carroll returned to Sabetha, Kansas after his service and worked for Wenger Manufacturing as a service technician. He then was the manager of the Berwick Co-op Oil Company for many years. Carroll worked at Extru-Tech Inc. in his later years, retiring in 2005.


He was united in marriage to Maridel Davis on May 1, 1980 at the First United Methodist Church Parsonage in Sabetha, Kansas.


Carroll died on March 26, 2009 in Sabetha, Kansas at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jordan James Wittmer, and one great granddaughter, Kylie Shay Viergever.


He is survived by his wife, Maridel Wittmer of Sabetha, Kansas; two daughters, Julie Lynn Krebs of Sabetha, Kansas and Cindy Gail Wittmer of Hiawatha, Kansas; one son, Scott Allen Hallenbeck of Alma, Kansas; one sister, Delores June Lemanski of Clawson, Michigan; one brother, Max Arthur Wittmer of Sabetha, Kansas and 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be Monday, March 30, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha. Family visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Playground Partners or the First United Methodist Church sent in care of the funeral home.
