Charles Aeschliman

December 12, 1919 — December 26, 2017

C harles William Aeschliman, 98, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early in the morning of December 26, 2017. Early morning was Charles’s regular prayer time.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Ada (Reinhardt) and great grandson Josh.  Charles is survived by four children, Elaine (Bill) Mishler, Roger (Joleen) Aeschliman, Belva (Boyd) Wilson and LeAnn Burns.  Charles is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 10 great great  grandchildren.

Charles, the youngest of 9 children was born on a farm south of Sabetha on December 12, 1919. His mother died 3 weeks later and Charles was adopted and raised by his aunt Rachel Aeschliman.  He graduated from Sabetha High in 1937 and was hired by the U.S. Postal service in 1939. Charles married Ada Reinhardt on August 31, 1941 at 6:00 a.m. in the Congregational Church.  He entered the Marine Corps in May of 1943 and was trained and worked as a radar technician until his discharge in November of 1945. It was during his stint in the Marines that Charles understood the importance of living a life for Christ. After ending his Postal career in 1960, Charles spent the next 10 years as a lay minister serving in Centralia and Seneca. Following his time as a full time lay minister, Charles worked for the American Cancer Society, KTNC radio, the Apostolic Christian Home and was a co-partner with Bill Mishler in Macco Construction. Charles and Ada moved back to Sabetha in the early eighties. For many years Charles was active in the Congregational Church serving in many capacities including that of deacon emeritus. Up until his “homecoming” Charles maintained a daily prayer list that included his extended family any many, many other folks. He will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Northridge Church in Sabetha. Inurnment will be made at the Sabetha Cemetery at a later date and time. Memorial contributions may be made to NorthRidge Church, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
