Charles Usher

Charles Daniel Usher, 94, Summerfield, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 a the Tonganoxie Nursing Center, Tonganoxie, Kansas.

He was born August 23, 1914 at Summerfield, the son of Frank Usher Sr. and Susan A. Doyle. He attended school in Summerfield and graduated from Summerfield High School in 1933.

Mr. Usher worked as a bulk agent for Mobile Oil and had operated the Usher's Service Station in Summerfield. He retired in 1979.
He was married to Frederica Rees September 25, 1936 in Hiawatha, KS. She preceded him in death May 19, 2003.

Mr. Usher was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and has served as an elder for the church. He was a member of the Oketo Masonic Lodge, AF & AM #25, a life member of the Arab Shrine, Topeka, and was a former member of the Summerfield Lions Club. He had also served on the Summerfield City Council and the Summerfield Fire Department. He had also worked for the Marshall County Civil Defense.

Survivors of Mr. Usher include two sons, Raymond Usher, Tonganoxie and Michael Usher, Platte City, Missouri; a sister, Mary Pattishall, Wymore, Nebraska; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 11 step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, Summerfield. Pastor Herb Schrader will preside and Jackie Cameron will be accompanist. Burial will be in the Summerfield Cemetery. Casket bearers are Sherman Manley, Fred Manley, Kent Manley, Daniel Usher, Charles Usher, and Brian Young. A visitation will be Tuesday, March 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home, Axtell, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be left to the Shriner's Hospital and Hospice of Kansas and left in care of the funeral home.
