Cleta Lewis

Cleta, Lewis, 89, of Centralia, KS died Friday, August 24, 2007 at the Eastridge Care Home in Centralia.

She was born May 18, 1918 on a farm northwest of Centralia the daughter of Martin Alexander Bell and Sophie Shaffer Bell. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1936. She received a Bachelor's Degree in 1956 and received her master's degree in 1961, both from Emporia State University.

She taught in Head School, Summit School and Center School; all rural schools in the Centralia area. She also taught in the Vermillion and Dunlap Grade Schools. She retired in 1982 after 32 years of teaching in Centralia schools. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Centralia and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star also in Centralia.

She married William Harold Lewis December 16, 1945 at Centralia. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son William "Bill" Lewis and his wife Kay of Manhattan, KS; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 27, 2007 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Centralia, KS. Rev. Deanna Lewis will preside. Janelle Glatczak will be the organist and there will be congregational singing of "In the Garden" ,"Hymn of Promise" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" A visitation will precede the services from 9:30 am until service time at the church. Casket bearers will be Wayne Lewis, Rob Schlitter, Greg Kater, Raymond Glatczak, Larry Glatczak. A Burial will be in the Centralia Cemetery. Memorials are being left to the Eastridge Care Home or the United Methodist Church both of Centralia or the Abundant Life Hospice of Hiawatha, KS all of which may be sent in care of the Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home in Centralia, KS.
