David Bindel

December 24, 1961 — September 16, 2010

David Lee Bindel, 48, died on September 16, 2010 as a result of a farming accident at his home. He was born at Sabetha, Kansas on December 24, 1961 the son of Leo L. Bindel and Lois K. (Jurgensmeier) Bindel. He was the only son of six children born to this union. He grew up in the Fidelity area and attended Sabetha schools, graduating in 1980 from Sabetha High School. An active participant in Future Farmers of America, David served as reporter and vice president. His senior year he was the proud recipient of the State Farmer Degree award granted by the Northeast District State Farmer Selection Committee. Only 3% of all Kansas Future Farmers of America members receive this award, which is the highest degree the state association can bestows upon a member.
At a very young age, David started helping his dad with the farming operation. He loved farming and taking care of the livestock. David had a real talent in trying new innovative farming techniques and coordinated the planting and harvesting of the Bindel Seed test plots. His maintenance of detailed books of the farming operation does not even begin to cover his presence on the farm. David’s life exemplified the values of hard work, honesty, and modesty. His word was his bond, always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed when neighbors would stop by to visit or help him with projects.
David was a member of the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Fidelity all of his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed his family, especially his nieces and nephews. In addition, he loved playing golf and watching sporting events.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo L. Bindel on June 27, 2006. He is survived by his mother, Lois K. Bindel of Sabetha; five sisters, Denise Plattner and her husband, Gary of Sabetha; Carla Yost and her husband, Mike of Lenexa, Kansas; Janelle Popkess and her husband, Matt of Sabetha; Lanette Fabac and her husband, Jim of Schertz, Texas; and Nicole Nolte and her husband, Joe of Washington, Illinois; and 10 nieces and nephews, Brett Plattner; Cody Yost and Connor Yost; Blake Popkess and Emma Popkess; Collin Fabac, Brandon Fabac, and Alyssa Fabac; and Eric Nolte and Mariah Nolte.
The body will lie in state at Popkess Mortuary from 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 18, until Sunday, September 19, at 3:00 p.m. at which time the body will be moved to St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Fidelity, Kansas. At the church, the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary following at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be recited on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Fidelity, Kansas. The burial will be at the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Renovation Fund or to the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Cemetery sent in care of Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha, Kansas.
