David Emert

David "Dave" Lloyd Emert was born on April 25, 1949 the son of Dale M. Emert and Norma Harriett Hennigh Emert at Sabetha, Kansas.

Dave grew up in the Sabetha area, attended Sabetha schools and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1967.

After graduating, he attended Highland Community College and then Kansas University. Dave worked in Topeka for a couple years then returned to Sabetha to work for his father, with his brother at Emert's Body Shop. After his father retired, Dave and his brother operated Emert's Body Shop for several years. Dave later purchases M&L Auto which he operated until his death.

Dave was a member of the Sabetha City Commission and served a mayor from April of 1989 to April of 1997 and from April of 2005 until his death. He served on the Sabetha Fire Department and was a member of the Sabetha EMT Association. He owned and operated the ambulance service for several years.

He was united in marriage to Janet Scoby on August 10, 1973. They later divorced. He was united in marriage to Debbie Daily on February 14, 1999.

Dave died on November 26, 2007 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka at the age of 58.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Emert on March 9, 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Emert of Sabetha; his father, Dale M. Emert of Sabetha; one daughter, Sheli Emert-White of Sabetha; one son, Michael Emert and his wife Judi of Easton, Pennsylvania; one step son, Shane Plattner of Sabetha; one step daughter, Shelby Thagard and her husband Thomas of Olathe, Kansas; 1 grandson Gavin White; two granddaughters, Claire and Kennedy Thagard; one brother, Tom Emert and his wife, Susan of Sabetha.



Funeral services will be Friday, November 30, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha.

A family visitation will be Thursday evening 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be in the Sabetha Cemetery.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Playground Partners/6th Street Ball Park and sent in care of the funeral home.
