Debbie K. Mooney, 69, of Sabetha, Kansas, formerly of Trenton, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Maple Heights Nursing & Rehabilitative Center in Hiawatha, Kansas, surrounded by her family.
Debbie was born on October 19, 1955, in Killeen, Texas, to Ralph and Frances “Wilberta” (Royston) Ferguson. Due to her father’s military career, Debbie’s childhood was spent in various locations, including Paris, France; Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines; Ankara, Turkey; and West Berlin, East Germany.
The family eventually settled in Trenton, Missouri, where Debbie graduated from Trenton High School in 1974. She then attended Trenton Junior College and earned a Secretary Certificate in 1975. She continued her education at William Woods University and graduated with a master’s degree. Debbie worked at Grundy Electric Cooperative as the Accountant and Safety Director for 33 years before retiring in 2010.
Debbie was actively involved with her children’s youth activities, including sports, band, and scouts. She also participated in and supported several community organizations in Trenton, including Beta Sigma Phi, Business Professional Women, Trenton Beauty Pageant, Trenton Band Boosters, and Celebrate Recovery.
On November 11, 2011, Debbie married Floyd “Sonny” Mooney. After their marriage, she worked as the accountant for their business, Floyds Truck Repair & Road Services, located in Sabetha.
Debbie cherished spending time with friends and family, particularly her grandchildren. She attended her grandchildren’s numerous activities and sporting events whenever possible. Debbie and Floyd also loved traveling and embarked on numerous road trips across the country.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Floyd “Sonny” of Sabetha; her two sons, Nathan (Kristen) Vandevender and Paul (Amanda) Vandevender, both of Trenton, Missouri; her brother, Ralph D. Ferguson of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; and her six grandchildren, Korbin Vandevender, Cayson Harper, Jayden McClure, Ian Vandevender, Dru Vandevender, and Zoe Vandevender.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton, Missouri. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. After the service, Debbie’s wishes were to be cremated. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trenton Band Boosters, sent in care of Resthaven Mortuary & Cemetery, 310 North U.S. 65, Trenton, Missouri 64683. Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha, Kansas, is helping the family with local arrangements.
