Diana Mitchell, 59, passed away on Thursday October 7, 2010 at the Sabetha Community Hospital. Diana was born on May 5, 1951 the daughter of Norman Schmitt and Mary Lou (Hulsing) Schmitt at Sabetha, Kansas. Diana attended Sabetha Schools and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1969. She then attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Joseph, Missouri and graduated in June of 1972. Over the years, Diana worked for Sabetha Community Hospital as director of nursing for 10 years, Stormont-Vail Hospital on the cardio-pulmonary unit for 2 years, Fountain Villa Care Center as director of nursing for 8 years, Sabetha Residential Care Center as administrator for 5 years, Electronic Data Systems as a nurse analyst of 7 years, and the Sabetha Manor/Cobblestone Court as a community outreach coordinator for 1 year. Diana loved all of the people that she worked with and made many friends over the years. Diana was baptized at the Church of Christ in Sabetha in August of 1977. Diana married Hugh Mitchell on September 30, 1977 at the Church of Christ. To this union two children were born.
Diana was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Hugh Mitchell of the home; daughter, Kari L. Reeves and her husband, Curtis of Sabetha; son, Jesse Mitchell and his wife, Rhonni of Sabetha; two stepchildren whom she considered her own, Jackie Epple of Sabetha, and Doug Mitchell of Sabetha; grandchildren, Charlotte Thompson, Debra Brassfield, Hayley Mitchell, Ethan Mitchell, Ashdan Reeves, and Cody Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Gregor Brassfield, Elisabeth Brassfield, and Jaxon Brassfield; two sisters, Connie Engel and her husband, Hank of Comfort, Texas and Carol Niehues of Sabetha, Kansas; one brother, Norman D. Schmitt, Jr. and his wife, Renee of Sabetha, Kansas; nieces, Bethanee New and her husband, Bryan of Comfort, Texas and Shelly Smith and her husband, Rick of Sabetha, Kansas; nephew, Nicholas Engel of Comfort, Texas. Diana has helped many people and touched many lives over the years and will be sorely missed. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, and sister anyone could ever have.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha. Visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be made in the Albany Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diana Mitchell Nursing Scholarship Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
