Dolores “Dee” Aul, 89, died on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Sabetha, Kansas.
She was born on November 8, 1922 in Bern, Kansas the daughter of Fred and Maude (Schick) Grossenbacher and attended Bern schools and graduated from Bern Rural High School in 1940.
She attended the University of Kansas where she was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and a member of the KU Marching Band playing the flute and graduated in 1944 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
She taught school in both Perry and Linwood, Kansas and was a homemaker for many years. She was extremely active in Eastern Star and was past local Worthy Matron and also district officer. She was extremely active in activities and committees at the First United Methodist Church and was an active supporter of the church youth. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Dolores loved to play the piano and enjoyed bridge.
She married Dan R. Aul on April 27, 1945 in Lawrence, Kansas. They later lived in Chetopa, Kansas and Oswego, Kansas and from 1959 to present had made the home in Sabetha, Kansas. Dan preceded her in death on October 7, 1984. She is survived by three children; Marcia Jane of Sabetha, Diana Lynn Necker and her husband, Tim of Liberty, Missouri and Ronald Dan and his wife, Lisa of Lawrence, Kansas; seven grandchildren Daniel, Dylan and Sydney Aul and Christina (Marrero), David, Andrew and Derek Martinez and great grandchildren Keegan, Carter and Sophia Marrero. Other survivors include brother, George F. Grossenbacher and his wife, Betty of Bern, Kansas and nephews Jeff, Tim and Doug Grossenbacher.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha, Kansas. A visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Friday evening at the Popkess Mortuary. Interment will be in the Sabetha Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church in Sabetha sent in care of the funeral home.
