Dolores Brey

Dolores June Brey, 85, of Sabetha died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the Sabetha Community Hospital. She was born on March 2, 1924 in Richland, Kansas the daughter of William Gibson and Reba H. (Austin) Gibson. Dolores graduated from Ozawkie Rural High School in 1942 and attended Strickler's Business College in Topeka, Kansas. She worked at the A.C.A. offices in Oskaloosa, Kansas and later at National Fire and Traveler's Insurance in Topeka, Kansas. She married Alfred O. Brey on August 24, 1947, and has resided in Sabetha since 1957.


Dolores "Dee" was a loving, caring person all her life. She was a stay at home mom and homemaker. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and was an avid KU basketball fan. Her husband, son and grandchildren were her greatest joys in life.


She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alfred Brey of Sabetha: her son, Dr. Galen Brey and his wife, Rebecca of Fairhope, Alabama; granddaughter, Molly Brey of Asheville, North Carolina and grandson, Jacob Brey of Birmingham, Alabama. Also survived by first cousin, Joyce Kane, wife of John Kane of Topeka, Kansas, 5 brother-in-laws, 4 sister-in-laws, 8 nephews and 5 nieces.


Funeral services will be on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha, Kansas. Graveside services will be at the Ozawkie Cemetery in Ozawkie, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contribution may be made to the Building Fund at the First United Methodist Church of Sabetha, Kansas sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
