Donna Leuze

June 9, 1918 — February 7, 2016

D onna Ellen Leuze, 97, of Sabetha passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

Donna was born June 9, 1918 in Soldier, Kansas the daughter of Ellis Root and Katie (Murray) Root.  She attended several country schools in the area and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1937.  Donna was united in marriage to Max Leuze on March 22, 1942 at the First Baptist Church in Sabetha.

Donna and Max owned and operated Leuze Coal and Building Material from the early 1950’s until the late 1970’s.  After retirement from their business, Donna substituted at the Sabetha Library and babysat for her two grandsons.  She enjoyed reading, cooking, watching baseball and spending time with her grandchildren.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Max on February 7, 1983, her sister, Helen Snyder and her twin brother, Donald Root. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ellen Key and her husband, Paul of Fairview; two grandsons, John Key of Sabetha and Benjamin Key of Fairview; her sister, Lila Glassinger of Sabetha; and nieces and nephews.


Memorial Service is Friday, February 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha. Memorial donations can be made to the Mary Cotton Public Library, or CAPS (Community Animal Protection Society), sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
