Doris McKune

Doris Margaret McKune, 101, of Burbank, California passed away December 10, 2011 at Harbor Care Center in Torrance, California. Doris was born on February 23, 1910 in Sabetha, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Anna Maynard. She attended the local primary school and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1928.

Doris married Gordon McKune of Falls City, Nebraska on December 25, 1940 and in January 1941, she moved to California where she lived with her husband for 53 years until his death in 1994. Doris has been active all her life in social and church communities and will be sorely missed in those circles. In 2010 Doris was recognized by the President and First Lady of the United States on the occasion of her 100 ^th birthday.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; four brothers, Cliff Maynard, Harold Maynard, Nick Maynard and Robert Maynard; two sisters, Helen Meisner and Mary Bolejack. She is survived by a nephew, Charles Meisner of Sabetha; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Schmidt and Gladys Hatfield both of Russell, Kansas and number of nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery.
