Edith Frey

E dith “Audrey” (Grimes) Frey, 96, of Sabetha, KS passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

Edith was born January 27, 1918 in Reserve, Kansas the daughter of Voris and Adele (Maure) Grimes.  She graduated from Reserve High School in 1936.  After high school she worked as a waitress in a hotel in Hiawatha.  Edith was united in marriage to Leon Frey on March 16, 1946 at the Congregational Church in Sabetha.  They made their home on a farm located south of the Sabetha Hospital from 1946 to 1971.  In 1971 they moved to town where Edith lived until late February of 2014 when she moved to the Apostolic Christian Home.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and ran the poppy sales every year.  Edith was also a member of the Congregational Church in Sabetha and organized the kitchen for the yearly fundraiser.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon Frey; a son, Warren Frey; siblings, Robert Grimes, Bill Grimes, Fred Grimes, Bonnie Grimes; her friend and companion, John Beck.

Survivors include her son, Kermit Frey (Twila) of Rose Hill, KS; three grandchildren, Lance Frey (Hannah), Natalie Simmons (Zack) and Lauren Moore (Tyler) along with four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service is Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.  Visitation is Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions can be made to Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
