Eileen Louise (Porting) Shaughnessy passed away on May 9, 2011 from complications due to a brain tumor. Eileen was born on October 10, 1922, in Axtell, Kansas to Peter and Irene (Godbout) Porting . She married Charles Edward Shaughnessy at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell, Kansas on May 22, 1946. They had 9 children, James, a Roman Catholic Priest, Marysville, Ellen (Larry) Nordhus, Centralia, Joe, (Ann) Axtell, Laurie (Steve) Dugan, Mayetta, Mike, (Monica) Silver Lake and Sean, (Anne) Cimarron. 3 children died at birth in 1951, 1953 and 1954.
She was preceded in death by husband Charles on August 22, 2004 and two sisters, Rita Kuckelman in 1998 and Mary K. Burdolski in 2011.
She is also survived by sisters, Margie Buessing, Axtell, Anna Marie Kuckelman, Axtell and Dorothy Landrum, Hot Springs, Arkansas; brothers, Al Porting, Gene Porting and Gerald Porting all of Axtell; 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:30 am at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell, KS. Archbishop Joseph Nauman, father Albert Hauser, Father Jim Shaughnessy and other Priests of the Archdiocese will concelebrate the funeral mass. The St. Michaels Choir will conduct the music. Casket bearers are Reese Nordhus, Matthew Nordhus, Ryan Shaughnessy, James Shaughnessy, Kelly Dugan, Jeff Dugan, Patrick Dugan, Andy Shaughnessy, John Shaughnessy, Charles Shaughnessy, Aidan Shaughnessy and Chad Shaughnessy. The Lector will be Alice Porting and servers are Maddy Kuckelman, Bernadette Shaughnessy, Ambrose Shaughnessy and Anna Porting. Burial will be in the St. Michael’s Cemetery.
The rosary will be prayed Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
