Elgin Hartter

Elgin Hartter was born on June 15, 1944 the son of John Hartter and Mary Helen Butterfield Hartter at Ottawa, Kansas. He was one of three children born to this union. Elgin attended and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1962. He then attended the Ottawa University from 1963 until 1964. He received one of the first golf scholarships from the university. He then moved to Palm Springs, California and worked at a golf course and caddied for several golf pros. He was drafted into the United States Army in June of 1965 and served until l967, he received a Purple Heart.

Elgin was united in marriage to Lynda M. Leinacker on October 28, 1967. Two children where born to this union. Elgin worked for Reeves Weideman for several years and retired in 1992.

Elgin died on September 10, 2007 at his residence at the age of 63. He was preceded in death by his father, John Hartter on October 29, 1997; his wife, Lynda M. Hartter on February 16, 2000: one brother, Everett Hartter on May 23, 2000. He is survived by his mother, Mary Helen Hartter of Sabetha; one son, D'Jay Hartter of Sabetha; one daughter, Brandi Epple of Sabetha; one brother, John Hartter of Sabetha and 5 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at the Sabetha Cemetery. Family visitation will be Tuesday evening 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Sabetha Country Club. The inurnment will be in the Sabetha Cemetery with military honors conducted by the V.F. W. Post # 7285 of Sabetha. Memorial contribution may be made to the Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
