Eugene Edward Kellenberger, 82, of Sabetha died peacefully on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Sabetha Community Hospital.
Gene was born on January 28, 1928 in Sabetha the son of Arthur and Marie (Steiner) Kellenberger. He attended Albany School and graduated from Sabetha High School in 1945.
Gene was united in marriage to Marian Couch on June 20, 1948. To this union was born 6 children. Their grandson Christopher Vela was adopted and raised as their son.
They lived on a farm north of Sabetha and later moved to a home north of Morrill. During his life, Gene was a dairy farmer. He also worked as a mechanic at Dan K. Chevrolet Olds.
Gene and Marian were converted and baptized in the Sabetha Apostolic Christian Church in 1965.
Preceding him in death are his parents; one daughter, Cathy Jo Kellenberger; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Kellenberger; two brothers, Galen Kellenberger, in World War II and Leo Kellenberger.
Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian; five sons, Jay Kellenberger and his wife, Marilyn of Sabetha, Jim Kellenberger and his wife, Ann of Towanda, Illinois, Art Kellenberger and his wife, Joy of Morrill, Gale Kellenberger and his wife, Belinda of Morrill and Christopher Vela and his wife, Nicole of Mission, Kansas; one daughter, Janelle Coleman and her husband, Bob of Merriam, Kansas; five brothers, Lynn Kellenberger, Dan Kellenberger and Jerry Kellenberger all of Sabetha, Randy Kellenberger of Stillwater, Kansas, Rick Kellenberger of Fort Scott, Kansas; two sisters, Verda Bruellman of West Bend, Iowa and Joyce Woodworth of Lenexa, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sabetha Apostolic Christian Church. Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Memorial contribution may be made to the Gene Kellenberger Memorial Fund sent in care of the funeral home.
