Eula Swanson

July 23, 1919 — September 8, 2013

E ula Mae Swanson, 94, of Sabetha, Kansas passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.  She was born July 23, 1919 in Pawnee City, Nebraska, the daughter of John and Louisa (Marti) Baumgartner.

Eula graduated from Bern High School and Clark’s Business College in Topeka.  After college she went to work for Landeene Advertising Company where she was office manager for 22 years. During this period she also served for many years as secretary-treasurer of the Outdoor Advertising Association of Kansas.  After leaving this firm she moved to Phoenix, AZ where she was employed for a period of two years for L.L. Stroud, Inc., moving back to Kansas City, MO to be office manager for A.F. Stepp Investments, Inc. She was with this firm for 23 years, retiring in 1984.

Eula was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, American Business Women’s Association, and past president of the Women’s Division of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce.  She was a long time member and past secretary-treasurer of the Kansas City Swiss Society, a member of Community Christian Church where she was a member of the Laurel Group, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ararat Shrine Oriental Band of Kansas City, MO.

For the past 20 years she and her husband, Russell, spent their winters in Surprise, AZ where they owned and maintained a winter home.

Eula was preceded in death by her parents; siblings,  Louis Baumgartner, Alvi “Pat” Baumgartner, Louise Bieri, Alyce Livengood and Mamie Abshier.  She is survived by her husband, Russell Swanson of Sabetha; two nephews, Leslie Baumgartner and Leonard Baumgartner both of Sabetha; and one niece, Elwanda Schock of Bowling Green, KY.

Funeral service is Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.  Interment will be in the St. Joseph Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, MO. Memorial contributions may be left to the Apostolic Christian Home, sent in care of the funeral home, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
