Evelyn Olson

Evelyn Anmarie Grotnes Olson, 85, Axtell, died Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Frankfort Care Home in Frankfort, Kansas.

She was born October 14, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Elinas Grotnes and Emma Anderson Grotnes. She attended Concordia College at Morehead, Minnesota and had been a member of the Eastern Star, Detroit Lakes. She was co-owner and operator of the Valhalla Resort at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

She married George Olson September 7, 1957 at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She moved to Kansas where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and a member of the Martha Circle at the church. Mrs. Olson was also a member of the Friendship Club and Vermillion TOPS at Vermillion and had served as a 4-H leader.

Survivors of Mrs. Olson are her husband, George of the home in rural Axtell; a son, Allen Olson and wife Kelly, Wichita; two daughters, Ann Marie Olson and husband Raymond Russin, Blair, Nebraska formerly of Salina, KS and Alice Roepke and husband, Terry, Waterville; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Len Grotnes.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church, Axtell. Pastor Charlene Barnes will preside and will be assisted by David Winquist. Special music will be provided by Shirley Polson, Pat Olson and Dulcie Shoener and Nathaniel Shoener. Burial will be in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Steve Argo, Wendell VanDorn, Terry Broxterman, John Polson, Kent Polson, and Lester Palm. Honorary Casket bearers will be Todd Surdez, Benny Ekstrum and David Winquist.

Memorial contributions may be left to either the Salem Lutheran Church or the Meadowlark Hospice and left in care of the Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home in Axtell.
