Floey J. Thomas

Floey J. Thomas, 87, of Sabetha, Kansas passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 27, 2022, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha. 

Floey was born on November 25, 1935, in Troy, Kansas, the daughter of Loyd Perlie Clary and Mary Elizabeth (Sutton) Clary.  Floey graduated from Troy High School in 1953.  Following graduation, she attended Highland Community College and completed her associates degree in 1955.  Floey married Norman C. Thomas on May 29, 1955, in Sabetha, Kansas where they settled and raised their family.  Floey and Norman celebrated 26 years of marriage until his death in December of 1981. 

While taking care of and raising her family, Floey continued her college education at Peru State College where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1964.  When her four children were in elementary school, Floey began her full-time teaching career at St. Benedict Elementary School in St. Benedict, Kansas.  Floey continued her education at Kansas State University where she received her Master of Science degree in Education in May of 1978.  She retired in 1995 after 32 years of teaching at several school districts including Powhattan, Seneca, Wetmore, and Sabetha, Kansas.

Floey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; and her six siblings, Ray Clary, Alma Clary, Jody Sutton, Harold Clary, Bernard Clary, and Geraldine (Clary) Walker.  

Floey is survived by her three daughters, Laraine (Rance) Sackrider of Topeka, Kansas, Peggy Thomas of Lawrence, Kansas, and Diana (Patrick) Bauman of Sabetha; her son, Charles Thomas of Castaic, California; her two grandchildren, Shelley (Rick) Smith and Gabrielle (Naomi) Bauman both of Sabetha; her three great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Bill Thomas of Holton, Kansas; her two sisters-in-law, Carlene Sutton of Brigham City, Utah and Katherine Clary of Troy, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha, Kansas.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the mortuary.  Burial will be in the Sabetha Cemetery.  Those who wish to remember Floey in a special way, the family suggests memorial contributions to the United Brethren in Christ Church in Sabetha sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, Kansas 66534.
