F rances Maxine (Deaver) Sauer, 93, of Sabetha, Kansas passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Sabetha Manor.
Frances was born November 30, 1926 the seventh of seven children born in Sabetha, Kansas to Fred and Sarah (Bestwick) Deaver. Frances grew up in Sabetha, and later moved to Topeka with her husband and children. After her husband’s death, she returned to Sabetha to raise her children. Frances began working for the Sabetha school system in 1972, and continued until her retirement.
Frances loved being outdoors and upon retirement could be seen working in her garden, swinging in her porch swing or taking her daily walk along Main Street. She was a gifted seamstress and quilter, using her talent to gift beautiful quilts to family and friends. For many years she volunteered her services to the community repairing clothing for those in need. Frances most of all loved spoiling her great grandchildren in Sabetha and remained a large part of their lives until her passing.
Frances loved cooking for her family with food she had grown and canned. If you were visiting her home you knew you would never leave hungry.
Frances was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha and would attend church services whenever possible. She was also a regular at the Sabetha Senior Center.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Augustine Sauer; her brothers, Melvin Deaver, Ray Deaver, and William Deaver; and her sisters, Opal Schmidt, Lila Wiltz, and Mildred McCoy.
Frances is survived by her four children, Ronald (Jeanne) Sauer of Cary, NC, Linda (Bill) Rohde of Olathe, KS, Roger (Jane) Sauer of Sabetha, KS, and Darnelle (Marty) Wiltz of Sabetha, KS; her grandchildren, Kristi Sinning, Jyll Campbell, Amber Sauer and Briana Sauer; her great grandchildren, Jordan Sprigg, Lauren Huber, Tyler Huber, Bryn Sinning, Brigan Campbell, Catalina Palazzolo, and Maverick Palazzolo; and her great-great grandchildren, Grayson Sprigg and Griffin Sprigg.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha, KS. Interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Frances to a cause she held dear to her heart, providing meals for children. The Frances Sauer Angel Fund provides school lunches to those who cannot afford them.
