Frank Althouse

F rank D. Althouse, 80, of Sabetha, passed away on August 5, 2014 at Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka, KS.

Frank was born on July 17, 1934 to Floyd and Lyda (Humphrey) Althouse on the family farm in the Woodlawn area.  He graduated from Sabetha High School in 1952.  In 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving 14 months in France, and was honorably discharged in 1956.

Frank was united in marriage to Dolores Glenn of Sabetha on June 3, 1956.  They lived in Lawrence, KS for three years where he worked for the city water department.  In March of 1959 they moved to a farm south of Sabetha and began farming.  Frank and Dolores had two children, a daughter, Kathy and a son, Doug.  Frank was a lifetime member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church and served as a trustee for many years.  He continued to farm and raise livestock for the next 52 years.  He took great pride in tending to his farm and livestock.  Frank enjoyed spending his spare time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores of the home; a daughter, Kathy Remmers and husband, Steve of Olathe, KS; a son, Doug Althouse and wife, Carrie of Cimarron, KS; three grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Legge, two sisters-in-law, Mavis Glenn and Ilene Glenn, and one brother-in-law, Allen Glenn.

Funeral service is Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.  The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be left to the Woodlawn Baptist Church, sent in care of the funeral home, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
