Gale VanDorn

Gale William Van Dorn 76, of Vliets, KS died Sunday June 26, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Seneca .

Gale was born July 10, 1934 at Axtell, KS the son of Arthur William Van Dorn and Florence Olive Palm Van Dorn.  He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1953 and entered the United States Air Force in 1953.  He served overseas in Germany until being honorably discharged in 1957.

On August 4, 1963 he was united in marriage to Deanna Kay Pickrell at the Salem Lutheran Church.  She survives of the home in Vliets.

Other survivors include a daughter, Rhonda (Mark) McLaughlin of Havensville , KS ; three sons, Dennis (Mary) Van Dorn of McPherson, KS , Darrin Van Dorn of Vermillion, KS and Dan Van Dorn (Kelley) of Missouri Valley, IA ; a twin brother, Gary Van Dorn of St. Joseph, MO ; eight grandchildren, Karley, Kinzi and Kyla McLaughlin, Wyatt, Derek, Zach, and Ethan Van Dorn, and Ashton Reitz.  A great granddaughter Liliana Rietz

Gale farmed for several years, worked construction for Leonard Van Dorn Construction and for the Construction Union in Manhattan, KS .  Following that he worked many years at the Vliets CO-OP driving a fuel truck amongst many other things.  Then Gale worked for the Marshall County Road and Bridge Crew until retiring in 1996.

Gale was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church at Axtell and the R.R. Hendricks American Legion Post #214 of Axtell.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 1:30 PM at the Salem Lutheran Church south of Axtell, KS.  A family visitation will be from 12:30 – 1:30 prior to the service at the church.  Pastor Charlene Barnes will conduct the services.  Shirley Polson will be the organist. Inurnment will be in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery with Full Military Honors by the R.R. Hendricks American Legion Post #214 of Axtell.

Memorials are being left to the Salem Lutheran Altar Society or Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice and may be sent in care of the Landreth – Popkess Funeral Home, Axtell, KS.
