G ary Lee Hedding, 55 of Bern died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca. He was born on November 2, 1957 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, the son of Eugene and Virginia (Smith) Hedding. The family moved to Belleville, Kansas in the early 1960’s. Gary attended school in Belleville until 1975. He attended North Central Kansas Vo-Technical School in Beloit where he met his future wife, Bonnie Holway. They were united in marriage on January 8, 1977. To this union two children were born, Gene Hedding and Emma (Hedding) Zimmerschied. Gary received a job at the City of Beloit with the Street and Alley Department. In early May of 1977 they moved to Beloit. Gary worked for the City of Beloit until September 24, 1990, when he retired due to his illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cindy Zachery. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Hedding of the home; son, Gene (Sabrina) Hedding of Plainville, Kansas; daughter, Emma (Justin) Zimmerschied of Bern, Kansas; three aunts, Janet Smith of Pennsylvania, Joyce Robbins of Concordia, Kansas and Ramona Ouellete of Washington, Kansas; two grandchildren, Theoden and Eowyn Hedding.
Memorial service will be held Friday, October 4, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bern United Methodist Church in Bern, Kansas. A memorial service will also be held Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the VFW Post in Beloit, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to a fund yet to be designated, sent in care of Popkess Memorial Chapel, 814 Castle, Seneca, Kansas 66538.
