Gary Lhamon

G ary Duane Lhamon, 68, of rural Seneca passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at his home.

Gary was born on May 15, 1945 at Marion, Indiana the son of Daily and Mildred (McGary) Lhamon. Gary graduated from Southwood High School, Wabash, IN in 1963.  He attended Marion College in Marion, IN.  After joining the U.S. Navy in 1966, he served on the USS Greenling SSN-614, USS Tunney SSN-682, and the USS Ohio SSBN-726.  When he left the Navy in in 1980, he reached the rank of Chief Petty Officer (ETN) and was a nuclear trained electronics technician.  Gary also was an instructor at the Naval Training Center in Orlando, FL.After leaving the Navy, Gary worked in nuclear power plants in different areas of the country as a reactor operator, or reactor instructor.  Gary married Jill Skinner in Urbana, IL on  July 22, 1988.  They moved to Seneca, KS in July of 2008.  Gary is a member and served for a short time as treasurer of Oneida Methodist Church. He is a member of ARRL and is a licensed Amateur Radio Operator.  Gary enjoyed photography  and reading and spending time with his children and grandchidren .

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dale Lhamon and a sister, Phyllis Weimer.  Survivors include his wife, Jill of the home; a son, Brian Lhamon of Omaha, NE; a daughter, Michelle Lee of Raymond, MS; stepchildren, Michael Skinner of Kansas City, MO and Kristan Patrick of Memphis, TN; a sister, Rebecca Ruth Dean of Greentown, IN ; six grandchildren, Erin Lhamon, Braeden Lhamon, April Lee, Kadie Lee, Robbie Skinner and Samuel Skinner.

A Celebration of Life is Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oneida United Methodist Church in Oneida.  The family invites friends to a potluck at 12:30 p.m. at the church.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice.
