Gerald "Jerry" Niehues

Gerald "Jerry" H. Niehues was born on October 8, 1937, the second of twelve children born to Bernard Niehues and Alfreda Niehues of Corning, Kansas. Jerry spent his childhood in Corning before moving to Sabetha, Kansas at the age of fifteen to work. It was in Sabetha that he met his future wife, Zana, in 1964. They married on June 5th, 1965. During their marriage, they were blessed with three children: Robert, Jerri Sue and Jodi. They raised their family in Morrill, Kansas. Jerry spent most of his life either farming or in trucking, hauling milk, and also served in the Army National Guard. Jerry loved music, horses, a good cup of coffee and great conversation. He played rhythm guitar in country bands for over twenty years before he retired his guitar strings in the late eighties and took up raising quarter horses. He was a loving husband and father as well as a loyal friend. He is best described as a man with simple needs and high character.


Jerry, 71, joined his Heavenly Father on July 21, 2009 after a long battle with heart disease. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jimmy Niehues. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Zana Niehues of Morrill; son Robert Niehues, his wife Tracey and their children Kyle and Addison of Parkville, Missouri; daughter Jerri Sue Quaife and her husband Donnie of Sabetha; daughter Jodi Niehues and her fiance Jacob Matz of Olathe, Kansas; special family friends Grant and Vonda Dietrich and their daughter Teara of Morrill; as well as his surviving brothers and sisters and their families and many friends.


The family will have a private memorial service. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association sent in car of Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
