Gladys Sylvester

G ladys Sylvester, 86, of Sabetha died Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.  Gladys was born on October 19, 1926 the daughter of Paul Stadel, Sr. and Blanche (Bates) Stadel in Riley County.  She attended and graduated from Leonardville Rural High School in 1944.  She was united in marriage to Lester F. Sylvester on October 15, 1947 in her parents’ home, two sons were born to this union.  Lester and Gladys lived and farmed in the Riley area until the expansion of Fort Riley forced them to sell their farm.  They moved to a farm south of Sabetha in the mid 1960’s where they lived and farmed.  Gladys was a member of the IH Club, Home Extension Unit and the NorthRidge Church.  She also enjoyed cross-stitching, latch hooking, quilting, crossword puzzles and putting together puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester Sylvester on March 1, 1996; four brothers, Elmo Stadel, Paul Stadel, Jr., Richard Stadel and an infant brother;  two sisters, Edith Young and Juanita Conrad.  She is survived by two sons, Eldo (Virginia) Sylvester and Jerry Sylvester both of Sabetha; three granddaughters, Christie (Brian) Strahm of Bern, Lisa (Matt) Roudybush of Westmoreland, Tennessee and Jo (Jason) Boyce of Sabetha and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Monday, September 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Home sent in care of the funeral home.
