Gloria Steele

Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, Gloria M. Steele, age 89, formerly of Morrill, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 with her family by her side. Gloria was born May 18, 1921 in Hiawatha, Kansas, the daughter of John and Stella (Evans) Gaston. On February 28, 1942 she married Bob Steele in Hiawatha, Kansas. Three children were born to this union.
Gloria served as a deacon for the Cornerstone Bible Church in Morrill, formerly Grace Brethren Church, for a number of years. She was a caring mother and grandmother and loved her God very much. Her home was always open to friends for fellowship and hospitality. Gloria had a close companionship with her cat Ralph. She enjoyed her trips to the cabin on the Missouri River where she spent time with family and close friends. Gloria spent the last year living at Cobblestone assisted living where she had so many compassionate and loving friends by her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Virgil Gaston; and two sisters, Fern Buck and Starr Pittenger.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Bob; one son, Mark Steele and his wife Faye of Morrill, Kansas; two daughters, Sharon Gruber and her husband Robert of Hiawatha, Kansas, and Karen McGuire and her husband Ronnie of Lynch, Nebraska; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and one niece, Delores Touchton of Houston, Texas.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Morrill Cemetery. The family will greet friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nemaha County Home Health & Hospice in Gloria’s name, sent in care of the funeral home.
