Harold Scoby

Harold O. Scoby, 91, of Sabetha died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the Apostolic Christian Home.  Harold was born November 10, 1919 at Sabetha, Kansas, the oldest of four sons of Otis and Stella (McClanahan) Scoby.   Harold attended Franklin Country School from first through eighth grade and graduated from Sabetha High School. After graduating from high school, Harold worked for his dad for two years. He then went on to rent his grandfather’s farm and eventually purchased the property. It was on this farm that Harold found his calling as a farmer, stockman, and dairyman. Harold was a active member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. On August 15, 1944, he was united in marriage to Darlene Irwin at the Fairview Baptist Church. To this union seven children were born. Harold and Darlene retired from farming in 1984 and spent their time square dancing as a hobby as well as many trips to Branson and other locations with friends and family.   He especially enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene on July 22, 2005; and his brother, Ken Scoby.

Survivors include his seven children, Cheryl Davis and her husband Charles of Topeka, Kansas, Dave Scoby and his wife Cheryl of Livingston, Texas, Susan Strahm and her husband Joe of Pender, Nebraska, Gary Scoby and his wife Leslie of Sabetha, Joyce Frey and her husband David of Sabetha, Nancy McFall and her husband, Ron of Derby, Kansas, Patty Rarick and her husband Jeff of Vermillion, South Dakota; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Art Scoby of Sabetha and Don Scoby of Fargo, North Dakota; brother-in-law, Robert Irwin of Castle Rock, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha. The visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the NorthRidge Church. Interment will take place in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Family Development Center at the NorthRidge Church, sent in care of the funeral home, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
