Harvey Wenger

July 8, 1927 — November 27, 2016

H arvey Robert Wenger, 89, of Sabetha died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, surrounded by his children.

He was born on July 8, 1927, the oldest of three children of William Wenger and Lena (Brunner) Wenger.  He grew up on a farm four miles south of Sabetha.  He attended Harmony country school from age of seven through the 7th grade before his family moved to Sabetha in February of 1941.

He was drafted into the Army during World War II in the fall of 1945, not more than two months after his 18th birthday.  Early in 1946 his ship sailed to Korea where he was stationed there for 16 months and 17 days until the end of World War II.  He then graduated the following year.  Harvey was proud of his service in the Army and loved to share stories with his family.

He met his bride-to-be, Arleta Ruth Aberle, while they were both employed at Wenger Mfg.  Harvey retired after almost 44 years.

Harvey and Arleta were united in marriage at his parents’ house in Sabetha on Easter April 1, 1956.  To this union five daughters and two sons were born.

He was a long time member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Sabetha.

After the passing of his wife on January 1, 2013 he became a resident of the Apostolic Christian Assisted Living.  He always was grateful for everything done for him.

Harvey lived life to the fullest.  He truly loved spending time outdoors.  Gardening, creating art and collecting were some of his many hobbies.  His favorite time was sharing ice cream with is grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: sister, Lennis; brother, Clyde Wenger and seven month old great granddaughter, Mya Young on October 16, 2016.

Harvey enjoyed keeping up with is seven children and their families; Mary Kay Wenger, Julianne (Frank) Krogmann, Wayne (Jean) Wenger, Janice (Roger) Young, Valerie (Curtis) Keim and Daniel Wenger all of Sabetha and Lana (Eldon) Kaster of Bern, Kansas.  He was proud of his 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  He will be missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Sabetha. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha.  The interment will be made in the Albany Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Cotton Public Library or to C.A.P.S. foundation sent in care of the funeral home.
