H azel Valora (Mayer) Milne, age 93, a resident of the Apostolic Christian Home passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018.

She was born on May 25, 1925 at home southwest of Goff, Kansas. It was so close to midnight the doctors didn’t look at the clock and didn’t know if it was the 24th or 25th and decided to call it the 25th. She was born to Clarence E. Mayer and Mary I. (Schafer) Mayer, one of five children.  She went to school at Morning Star until the 4th grade, then Wetmore, and finally to Cuckleburr through the 8th grade near Oneida. She then attended high school at Oneida and graduated in 1943.  She married Eugene H. Milne at a Christian church at Jefferson City, Missouri on February 20, 1943 when he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. She was a Charter Member of Fairview American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Fairview Rebekah Lodge until it closed holding offices in both organizations. She was also a member of the United Church of Christ in Fairview.

She moved with her husband, Eugene to the farm in 1947, west of Fairview. In 1949 they moved south of Fairview until moving east of Fairview on 36 Highway, living there until 1990.

While Gene was in the service, Hazel worked at Alameda Naval Yards in California. She then came back to Kansas and worked at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant in Eudora until Eugene returned from overseas after the war.

Hazel loved to travel, read, play cards and sew. She enjoyed her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Eugene H. Milne, her parents, her brother, Frederick Mayer, and twin brothers, Roy Mayer and Robert Mayer.

Hazel is survived by her two daughters, Marsha Olberding and her husband, Terry of Fairview, and Mary Henry of Fairview and her late husband, David Henry; her sister, Ruby Streit of Kent, WA; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
