Henry Plattner

February 19, 1922 — December 28, 2014

H enry A. Plattner, Sabetha, Kansas, passed away peacefully at the age of 92, on Sunday, December 28, 2014, at the Apostolic Christian Home. He was born February 19, 1922 in Sabetha. Hank was the youngest son of Jacob and Lena (Edelman) Plattner. He attended Eureka Country School through the 8 th grade, and then worked on the family farm before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He spent three years in the Army, two of which were overseas, in the Pacific Islands. After being discharged, he married Loree Brunner on October 20, 1946. They lived and farmed west of Sabetha. He was also employed at Wenger Mfg. until his retirement. Surviving are their five children: Susan Meyer of Sabetha; Sandra Aberle and husband, Doug of Moorpark, California; Doug Plattner and wife, Sue of Sabetha; Jan Strahm and husband, Dean of Sabetha and Joan Nussbaum and husband Kevin Bloomington, Illinois, their 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, Loree, on May 17, 2005, his parents, his brothers; Albert, John, Walt, Ben and sisters; Marie and Helen Plattner, Tillie Menold, Alice Deaver, and Laura Keim.

Hank was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and the VFW. He had a servant’s heart and spent his retirement years volunteering and helping his friends and neighbors. He loved God and being in His creation. He also enjoyed gardening, traveling, and sharing his military experience with others.

A visitation will be held Thursday evening, January 1, 2015, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Popkess Mortuary. Funeral services are Friday January 2, 2015, 10:00 am at the Apostolic Christian Church with interment following at the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Home, Sabetha Community Hospital, or the VFW and sent in care of the funeral home.
