JoAnn Dannels

August 20, 1930 — November 1, 2011

JoAnn Elaine Dannels, 81, Vermillion, KS, died Tuesday Nov. 1, 2011 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Topeka, KS.

JoAnn was born August 20, 1930 in Kansas City, KS the daughter of George Orville Nordquist and Mabel Harriett Swanson Nordquist.  JoAnn graduated from Frankfort High School.

JoAnn married Dale Dannels in 1950 and to this union were born three children, Debra Dannels, Mark Dannels and Doug Dannels.  In 1974 the family moved to Florida. Dale and JoAnn later divorced.

After retiring JoAnn spent her winters in Florida and her summers in Vermillion.

JoAnn worked for many years at the Vermillion Bank and Dannels Jewelry in Key Largo.

JoAnn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Vermillion and attended regularly when she was in Vermillion during the summers.  She was a gifted quilter and a member of a quilted in club in Key Largo.  She made quilts and donated them to a local Hospice Organization.  Being an artist JoAnn donated much of her time to improving the town of Vermillion by painting murals around town and being very active in community affairs.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark Dannels of Key Largo, FL  and Doug Dannels of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Becky Shepherd of Green Valley, AZ, Susie Brummett of Omaha, NE and Sharon Clear of Kernersville, NC;  three grandchildren,  Miko Dannels , Kyler Dannels and Azure Dannels.

She is preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Dannels.

JoAnn was cremated and her memorial services will be Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Vermillion Christian Church Annex (Former United Methodist Church).  Virgil Warren will conduct the services.  Virgil Warren will play his guitar and Ruth Ann Warren will play the organ.  Lynn Schafer will sing. The Congregation will sing “The Promise Song”.  Inurnment will be in the Vermillion Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials to JoAnn  are being left to the “Friends of Vermillion Community Inc.” and may be sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary 814 Castle, Seneca, KS 66538
