John Edelman

July 26, 1923 — June 13, 2007

John Jacob Edelman was born on July 26, 1923 the son of John D. Edelman and Mary Bauman Edelman at Sabetha, Kansas. He was one of 14 children born to this union.

He grew up in the Sabetha area 4 miles west of the Sabetha Hospital. Attended IXL District 40 School until the 8th grade. He entered into farming as a young man and farmed the family farm until 1966. For a short time he worked in a laundry in Topeka followed by two years on a dairy farm near Greenwood, Missouri and then two years at the American Saddle Horse Farm south of Lee's Summit, Missouri. In 1968 John moved to Ottawa where he worked two years at Moore Chevrolet, two years at the Ford Garage, three years at Baker University, two years at a fiberglass plant at Gardner and six and a half years in a boys' dorm as a janitor at Kansas University. John has worked for PTI and Mac Fasteners, both of Ottawa, a total of five years and has been a Shaklee distributor since 1971 and sells Calorad. He worked at Wendy's for five years and currently has two paper routes carrying the Lawrence Journal World Extra. John was united in marriage to M. Maxine Haefeker on March 19, 1983.

John died on June 13, 2007 at King City, Missouri at the age of 83.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-son; 6 brothers and 2 sisters. John is survived by 2 step- daughters, Gloria "Jean" Weber of Hastings, Nebraska and Mary Colburn of Austin, Texas; one step-son, Bill White of St. Joseph, Missouri; five sisters, Waiva Edelman and Mary Edelman both of Sabetha, Neoma Menold of Las Angeles, California, Fanny Menold of Santa Fe Springs, California and Adaline Kaeb of Aerosmith, Illinois.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. A family visitation will be Friday evening 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel. The interment will be in the Sabetha Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the King City Manor at King City, Missouri and the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha sent in care of the funeral home.
