John Menold

John Menold was born on November 20, 1912 the son of Emil Menold and Marie (Aberle) Menold at Mackinaw, Illinois. He grew up in the Mackiaw area and attended school until the eight grade. He moved to Sabetha in 1928. He entered into farming in 1939 south of Sabetha and worked as a mechanic for seven years with the Ford garage in Sabetha from 1933 to 1940. John entered full time into farming in 1940 northwest of Sabetha. He retired from farming in 1972 and moved to Sabetha and built a new home. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Kaeb on March 28, 1937 in Cissna Park, Illinois. Dorothy died in 1982. He was united in marriage to Loree Ann Edelman in 1983. She died in 2005. John was a minister of the Christian Apostolic Church in Sabetha for many years and a retired elder of the church. John moved into the Apostolic Apartments in 2003 and later into the Apostolic Christian Home in August of 2008.


John died on February 13, 2010 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha at the age of 97. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Menold; his second wife, Loree Menold; one son, LeRoy Menold in 1979; a granddaughter, Tresa Menold in 1980; two grandchildren, Amanda Kaufman and Benjamin Kaufman; five brothers and one sister. He is survived by two sons, James Menold and his wife, Louise of Sabetha and Don Menold and his wife, Pat of Sabetha; seven daughters, Miriam Strahm and her husband, Clayton of Sabetha, Judy Edelman and her husband, Eugene of Sabetha, Marge Edelman and her husband, Morris of Sabetha, Helen Meyer and her husband, LeRoy of Bern, JoAnn Edelman of Sabetha, Alice Steidinger of Bloomington, Illinois, and Wilma Kaufman and her husband, Steve of Silverton, Oregon and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Christian Apostolic Church in Sabetha. Visitation will be Monday evening 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be in the Albany Cemetery north of Sabetha. Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Home, Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice, or the Sabetha Community Hospital, sent in care of the funeral home.
