John Moser

John R. Moser was born on October 14, 1936 the son of Fernand M. Moser and Thelma Carpenter Moser at Sabetha, Kansas. He grew up in Sabetha area and attended Sabetha schools and graduated from Sabetha High School. He was united in marriage to Margaret Lovell and to this union was born two sons, Fern Moser and Darrin Moser. They were later divorced. John was united in marriage to Wilma Charles on May 30, 1972 and to this union was born one daughter Christine Moser Perez. John entered the United States Navy on June 17, 1957 and had a medical honorary discharge on May 27, 1958. John spent a number of years as an over the road truck driver. He completed police training in 1971 and served as an officer in Hiawatha, Kansas. He then went into the sheriffs department where he served as Deputy Sheriff in Bowman County, North Dakota. He also worked a number of years as a supervisor for oil companies in North Dakota. Upon returning to Sabetha he worked for both Keim Transportation and Koch Transportation. He also worked with a number of construction companies in the area. He retired in 2000 due to a back injury. John was past president of the Lions Club in North Dakota.


John died on January 15, 2009 at the Sabetha Community Hospital at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Moser of the home in Sabetha; a daughter, Christine Perez and her husband, Stuart of Pittsburg, Kansas; two sons, Fern Moser and his wife, Kim of Dickinson, North Dakota and Darrin Moser and his wife, Laura of Glendive, Montana; a twin sister, Rebecca Messinger of Salem, Nebraska; a brother, Phil Moser of Sabetha and five grandchildren, Kristen Moser, Robert Moser, Ashlie Engle, Kole Perez and Kaleigh Perez.


Funeral services will be Monday, January 19, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. A family visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel. The interment will be in the Sabetha Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Sabetha V.F.W. Post #7285. Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. Post #7285 of Sabetha or the First Lutheran Church Preschool sent in care of the funeral home.
