John Porting

John J. Porting, 68, of Axtell, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009.
John was born December 23, 1940 in Axtell, Kansas, the son of Hugo and Anna (Godbout) Porting. He graduated from Axtell High School in 1958.
On October 26, 1963 he married JoAnn Koch at St. Michael's Catholic Church.
John was actively involved with the Axtell Knights of Columbus, St. Michael's Catholic Church, and served on the St. Michael's School Board. He enjoyed woodworking and operated J&J Porting Crafts with his wife JoAnn. He retired from Landoll's Manufacturing in Marysville after 22 years and kept busy with his farm and cattle operation.
John is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Porting.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; two sons, Joe Porting, Jeff Porting (Kris); four daughters, Judy Dowell (Dan), Jeanne Eisenbarth (Randy), Janet Schmitz (Bryan), Jeanette Eisenbarth (Jesse): two sisters, Elinor Hawkins and Cathy Mack; and 17 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 10:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell. A rosary was recited Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Michael's Catholic School . Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
