Karen Mooney

October 16, 1943 — July 20, 2009

Karen Sue (Paden) Mooney was born on October 16, 1943 the daughter of Doyle Paden and Helen(Garland) Paden in St. Joseph, Missouri. She attended Benton High School in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Floyd Mooney on December 11, 1964 in St. Joseph, Missouri at the King Hill Baptist Church. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Karen LaShell Mooney and Shane DeRoy Mooney. With love and pride Karen took on what Floyd thought were crazy dreams. Karen was the backbone of her family. A lot of their dreams came true to include driving an 18 wheeler when they were in the trucking business for 14 years on the road and some great family vacations were also in that 18 wheeler. Karen was loved by many nieces and nephews and family and friends. She will be greatly missed.


Karen died on July 20, 2009 at the Sabetha Community Hospital at the age of 65. Karen was preceded in death by her son, Shane on October 10, 1992; parents, Doyle Paden and Helen Paden; a sister June Raye Kelly; a brother, Zachary Stephen Paden; a niece, Rebecca Kelly. Survivors include her husband, Floyd Mooney of the home; a daughter, Shelly Mooney of Sabetha; a brother LeRoy Paden and his wife, Judy of Horton, Kansas; two sisters, Pat Washburn and her husband, Jim of St. Joseph, Missouri and Collene Paden of St. Joseph, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Christopher James Mooney of Sabetha, Kansas, Colby James Mooney of Falls City, Nebraska and Nathan Allen Cepuran of Goose Creek, South Carolina.


Funeral services will be Friday, July 24, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. A visitation will be held Thursday evening 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be made to a charity yet to be designated sent in care of the funeral home.
