Katharine Capsey Swartz

Katharine Joyce Capsey Swartz, 67, passed away July 26, 2009, in Overland Park, KS. Born August 9, 1941, in Frankfort, KS, Kay was the daughter of Dr. Roswell and Lois Capsey of Centralia, KS. She graduated from Kansas University in 1963 with a degree in Elementary Education and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. After raising two daughters, Kay was a pharmacy tech at Queen's Price Chopper for nearly 20 years.

Kay is survived by her husband, Lawrence Leonard Swartz, two daughters: Shelley L. Forristal (Larchmont, NY) and Melissa M. Shively (Roseville, CA) and 5 grandchildren: Lauren, Stephanie, Kristen, Samantha, and Tyler. In addition to enjoying their many trips to New York and California to visit their grandchildren, Katharine and Lawrence were avid KU fans, attending many basketball and football games.

The family has requested contributions to be made to the KU Endowment Association for future jayhawkers (kuendowment.org).

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, July 31 at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS. An inurnment service will be held on Saturday, August 1, at 2:00 PM in the Centralia Cemetery, Centralia, KS. The Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home in Centralia is in charge of the inurnment services.
