Katherine Heiniger

September 8, 1950 — April 10, 2015

K atherine Jo “Kath” Heiniger, Topeka, formerly of Bern, daughter of Marie Ulmer Heiniger and the late Wilbur Heiniger, was born September 8, 1950 in Seneca, Kansas.  She passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, at the age of 64 surrounded by family.  Kath attended Bern High School, graduating in 1968.  After attending Beauty College in Topeka, Kansas, Kath worked as a hair dresser until she retired in 2010.  She was a member of Frieden’s United Church of Christ.  Kath always had a smile on her face and didn’t know a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur, in February 1993 and niece, Stacy Darling in June 1993.  She is survived by her mother, Marie Ulmer Heiniger of Bern, Kansas; brother, Loren Heiniger (Carol) of Henderson, Nevada; brother, Mark Heiniger (Mavis) of Bern, Kansas; sister, Barb Heiniger of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Susan Shroyer of Topeka, Kansas; and brother, Lynn Heiniger (Angie) of Topeka, Kansas; nieces and nephews Nicole Ewing, Leslie Beer, Laura Kmiec, Mallory Ensley, Brendon Shroyer, Lynzie Heiniger, Lexie Heiniger and great nieces and nephews Jon Ewing, Stacey Ewing, Kadyn Beer, Gavin Beer, Cooper Kmiec and Regan Ensley.

Visitation will be held at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha, KS from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015.  Graveside services will be held following visitation at 11:30 a.m. at Frieden’s United Church of Christ in rural Bern, KS.   Services will be led by Jacqueline Lamensky, pastor at Frieden’s, and Tobias Schlingensiepen, pastor at the First Congregational Church of Topeka.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hurwitz for being Kath’s knight in shining armor throughout her diagnosis; her hospice nurse Dani of Midland Hospice for her kind and caring support through this time; for friends and family for their visits and relentless support; for everyone that donated their time and food throughout these past few weeks.
