K athryn Virginia Emert, 100, fondly remembered as “Nanny” by all who knew her, died Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.
Kathryn was born on January 7, 1917 to Fritz Peterson and Nellie (Carlson) Peterson in Polk County, Nebraska. She had two brothers, Leo and Duane and one sister, Gwendolyn.
Kathryn was united in marriage to Alvin Nesbitt on September 18, 1936 in Long Beach, California. The two farmed in Burt and Nance Counties in Nebraska for nearly 20 years. During this time they had three children-Douglas in 1939, Sharyn in 1944 and Sue in 1946. In 1956, the family moved from their home in rural Fullerton, Nebraska to Sabetha, Kansas.
Alvin passed away at 61 years of age on February 15, 1978. Kathryn married Harold Kendall on September 7, 1980 in Morrill, Kansas. Harold passed away in 1988. Kathryn married Robert Emert on January 7, 1989 in Sabetha, Kansas. Robert passed away in 2011.
Also preceding Kathryn in death were her parents; three siblings; her son, Douglas; daughter, Sharyn; her stepson, Rob Emert.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue (Darrell) Schuette of Sabetha, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Betty Nesbitt of Moundridge, Kansas; son-in-law, Roger Hanni of Silver Lake, Kansas; sister-in-law, Judy Emert of Sabetha, Kansas; brother-in-law, Harold Emert of Sabetha, Kansas. Also surviving by seven grandchildren, Gregg (Jackie) Nesbitt of Kirksville, Missouri, Vicky (Jay) Kessler of Moundridge, Kansas, Shayla (Richard) Boyd of Silver Lake, Kansas, Scott Hanni of Shawnee, Kansas; Shane (Christa) Schuette of Sabetha, Kansas, Yalana (Michael) Edelman of Sabetha, Kansas and Ryan (Heaven) Schuette of Sabetha, Kansas and 17 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, three step-children, eight step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild.
Funeral service will be Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sabetha. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be made at the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, the Fullerton, Nebraska Booster Club and the Sabetha Booster Club, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, Kansas 66534.
